Terry Tours will meet you from your cruise ship at the Port of Tauranga and take you on a personalised tour with an experienced driver/guide to the geothermal wonderland of Rotorua.

Upon departure from the port you will be taken through Mt Maunganui, where you will see Pilot Bay on the harbour side of “The Mount”. Hear the Maori legend of Mauao and see the beautiful Ocean Beach before heading to Kiwi 360. This is where you will see New Zealand’s famous fruit, the kiwifruit, growing on the vines and even sample the fruit along with some of the produce of the kiwifruit, including wine, liqueurs and preserves. We will then drive inland to Lake Rotoiti, one of the 16 lakes of the region,we will stop and view the spectacular Okere Falls, we would then vist the Blue and Green lakes, along with the famous Lake Tarawera. We then travel on  to the city of Rotorua.and visit Te Puia, where you will see, hear and smell the geothermal activity, which makes New Zealand’s most visited city so unique. At Te Puia you will see the boiling mud, steaming fumeroles, and of course the famous Pohutu Geyser. Whilst walking through the park you can see our rare and endangered national bird, the Kiwi, in the simulated nocturnal Kiwihouse. It is here at Te Puia that you will find the New Zealand Maori Art and Craft Institute where you can see the indigenous Maori carving and weaving being produced by the students and teachers alike. The rich Maori culture is demonstrated in the form of song and dance at the cultural performance in the wharenui (sacred meeting house) “Te Aronui a Rua”.

After departing Te Puia, we head to a cafe or local pub for you to purchase your lunch. We then take a drive through the Thermal City to see more of the sights including the stunning Government Gardens with the Bath House Museum, the Art Deco Blue Baths and the Rachel Spring (Whangapipiro).

We will drive back to the Port of Tauranga through the alternative route of the Mangorewa Gorge for more stunning scenery. From the hilltops at the site of the ancient Maori Pyes Pa you will see the Tauranga Harbour and even your cruise ship in the distance.

This tour involves a gentle walk of approximately one hour.

Includes: Entry into Te Puia and the Maori Cultural Performance and professional driver/guide in our air conditioned vehicle.
