East Cape 3 Day-2 Night Tour

Day 1:
Depart in the morning and travel via Ohope Beach and around the picturesque Ohiwa harbour before heading inland. We drive through the Waioeka Gorge to Gisborne, NZ’s most easterly city. This afternoon we visit one of the many wineries which produce internationally acclaimed wines and, of course, sample the wine. Enjoy spectacular views of Poverty Bay from the viewpoint on Kaiti Hill and see where Captain Cook first set foot on New Zealand in 1769. Overnight in Gisborne. Dinner included

Day 2:
Spend the day travelling up the remote East Cape. We pass through small settlements and stunning beaches including NZ"s longest wharf at Tolaga Bay. We stop for a picnic lunch on the way and even reach the easternmost point of New Zealand, the East Cape Lighthouse. This afternoon learn about how the natural resource of manuka is used for healing purposes at the East Cape Manuka Company. We stop for an overnight stay at Hicks Bay. This evening after dinner join your guide for a walk on the short but steep path to the Glow Worm grotto. Breakfast, lunch & dinner included.

Day 3:
Today we enjoy spectacular coastal views on our way home. Stop at Raukokere to see the historic church, and at Whanarua Bay to learn about how Macadamias are harvested and processed. We continue on to historic Opotiki where we see the Church of St Stephen the Martyr and hear about its gruesome past. We complete our tour back in beautiful Whakatane and Tauranga. Breakfast included.
